Snap has introduced “Place Loyalty” badges for Snap Map users, letting people highlight the places they visit most often.

The feature shows users when they are among the most frequent visitors to a location. Snap says the update is meant to “celebrate the spots you visit most often” with its global community.

A ranking system built around repeat visits

The new system gives out three badge levels depending on how often someone visits a place on Snap Map.

Snap says users in the top 25% of visitors will see a ranking: Gold for the top 1%, Silver for the top 10%, and Bronze for the top 25%.

TechCrunch also noted that for brands and chains, Snapchat combines visits from all locations instead of counting each branch on its own.

So, the feature isn’t just for one local café or a single airport terminal. If you often visit a bigger chain, Snap might add up all your visits to different locations for your loyalty score.

Snap says users might see a “Top Visitor” badge on a location, which they can tap to see their ranking and get a shareable sticker showing their status.

Snap is turning location habits into another social feature

These new badges are part of Snap’s push to make Snap Map more than just a tool for seeing where friends are.

The feature encourages users to interact more with the app and share their loyalty badges with friends or on other social platforms.

Snap describes the launch as a natural next step, since people already use the map to find local spots and stay updated on what’s happening nearby.

Snap also used the launch to highlight the scale of the product.

Snap Map passed 400 million monthly active users last year. Snap now says the product has grown to more than 435 million monthly active users, calling it “one of the most used maps on mobile.”

That growth helps explain why Snap is investing in more game-like and socially visible map features: the map is no longer a niche side tool inside Snapchat, but one of its biggest engagement surfaces.

Snap is emphasizing privacy controls

Since this feature uses location history, Snap is putting a lot of focus on privacy.

Users will only see these badges if they choose to share their location with Snapchat, and the rankings are only visible to the user. Snap confirmed this, saying that location sharing is off by default and only shared with friends the user selects.

The company also said “your precise location is never shared with advertisers” and that users can control their privacy with features like Ghost Mode or by turning off location sharing completely.

A new layer of competition on the map

The main idea behind Place Loyalty is straightforward: Snap is turning everyday routines into a new kind of social status. Now, Snap Map will not just show where users are at the moment, but also highlight the places they visit most often.

For Snapchat, this could make the map more engaging and personal.

For users, it introduces a new ranking system, not based on followers or likes, but on the places they return to again and again.
