Google Gemini has rolled out audio file upload support across all platforms, including Android, iOS, and the web, allowing users to submit recordings for transcription, analysis, and AI-assisted tasks.

The new feature supports popular formats such as MP3, M4A, and WAV, and can be accessed through the “Files” menu in the Gemini app or the “Upload files” option on the web interface.

Upload Limits Based on Subscription Tier

  • Pro and Ultra subscribers can upload up to three hours of audio
  • Free users are limited to 10 minutes per file

According to Google, the addition was driven by user demand, particularly among those looking for accurate speech transcription and easier interaction with long-form audio content.

Expanded File Upload Capabilities

This update follows Gemini’s recent video upload support, which allows:

  • Up to 5 minutes of video for free accounts
  • Up to 1 hour of video for paid users
  • Maximum video file size: 2 GB

Gemini also supports:

  • File uploads up to 100 MB for other formats
  • ZIP files (up to 10 files)
  • GitHub repository connections (up to 5,000 files)
  • Up to 10 files per session regardless of type

The new audio support strengthens Gemini’s positioning as a multimodal AI assistant, capable of handling a wide range of media and document types across user tiers.
