Meta has introduced the Ray-Ban Display, its first pair of smart glasses with a built-in screen, significantly expanding the functionality of its wearable line. Priced at $799, the new model includes Meta’s innovative Neural Band, a wrist-worn controller that enables hands-free navigation through bioelectric signals.
Discreet screen integration for smarter use
The display is embedded in the right lens and activates only when needed. It’s designed to offer functionality without obstructing the wearer’s vision. According to Meta, users can:
- read and reply to messages
- view navigation directions
- access real-time translations
- interact with the Meta AI assistant
Meta emphasizes that this is not a full-screen experience — it’s designed to augment reality without overwhelming it. The company describes it as an alternative to “strapping a phone to your face.”
The Neural Band enables invisible control
Bundled with the smart glasses is the Meta Neural Band, a wristband that uses electromyography (EMG) to detect and interpret small muscle movements as input commands. This allows users to:
- scroll or click through interfaces without touching the glasses
- eventually type messages through subtle hand gestures
- use AI features in public without speaking or tapping
The goal is to make the device usable even in situations where voice or touch input would be inconvenient or impossible.
Full feature set built for real-world use
In addition to the new display and control features, the Ray-Ban Display retains all core smart glasses functions, including:
- making and receiving phone calls
- capturing photos and videos
- using the lens as a viewfinder to preview shots
- streaming music and podcasts via built-in open-ear speakers
- real-time interaction with Meta AI for search and assistance
Battery life and launch availability
Meta claims the smart glasses deliver up to 6 hours of active use, with the charging case extending that to 30 hours. The Neural Band lasts up to 18 hours on a single charge.
At launch, the Ray-Ban Display will be available exclusively in select U.S. retail locations, with international availability — including Canada, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom — expected later in the year.
