Apple’s iOS 27 is shaping up to be more than a headline update about artificial intelligence. While Siri AI and Apple Intelligence dominated the company’s WWDC26 announcement, the new iPhone software also brings practical upgrades across Wallet, Maps, Find My, Apple Pay, Music, Podcasts, Shared Albums, and parental safety tools.
Apple packed iOS 27 with updates across everyday apps and services, including smarter bill splitting in Apple Wallet, new location-sharing controls in Find My, and improved Apple Maps features. Apple described iOS 27 as bringing the next generation of Apple Intelligence and Siri, new child-safety tools, design updates, and performance enhancements.
Siri AI and Apple Intelligence Move to the Center
One of the biggest iOS 27 changes is the redesigned Siri experience.
Apple said Siri AI is powered by Apple Intelligence and can provide richer answers, natural conversations, a dedicated app, in-depth planning help, document feedback, and creative brainstorming support.
Apple is also extending intelligence features across everyday apps. Apple Intelligence can make apps more useful, including Safari, Image Playground, Mail, and Passwords. In Passwords, Apple said the system can help navigate account pages and update eligible compromised passwords.
However, not every user will get all AI features immediately. Siri AI will be available in beta later this year, starting in English, and will require an Apple Intelligence-enabled device. Apple also said Siri AI will not initially be available in the EU on iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS.
Apple Maps and Find My Get More Practical
Apple Maps is getting a more visual and discovery-focused update.
TechCrunch reported that Apple improved Flyover with more detailed visuals and smoother navigation. Apple added Local Lists, a feature that helps users discover and save recommendations for restaurants, attractions, and other trending places inside Maps.
Find My is also becoming more flexible. iOS 27 will let users share their location for a custom amount of time, such as a few minutes, several hours, multiple days, or until a specific date and time. Apple is adding a way to temporarily pause location sharing with individual contacts until the end of the day.
Wallet and Apple Pay Become More Useful
Apple Wallet may be one of the most practical parts of the update. iOS 27 will let users scan receipts with the iPhone camera and automatically split bills with friends using Apple Cash. The same report said Apple Intelligence can identify individual receipt items, calculate each person’s share of taxes and tips, and support repayment through Messages or Wallet.
Wallet is gaining support for digitizing physical membership and loyalty cards by scanning a barcode or digital card. Hotel keys are also being expanded. Participating hotels and resorts will be able to show trip details, activity schedules, service information, and real-time updates inside Wallet.
Apple Pay is also changing. Apple Pay will get a redesigned checkout experience that lets users swipe between payment cards while seeing rewards balances, debit balances, and pay-later options.
Music, Podcasts and Shared Albums Get Quality-of-Life Updates
Apple Music is expanding translation and pronunciation features. Lyrics Translation will support seven additional language pairings, while Lyrics Pronunciation will help users sing along to songs in languages they may not speak.
Apple Podcasts is also improving search and video support. Users will be able to search within a specific podcast show across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Vision Pro, and the web. Video podcasts are coming to Mac and Apple TV.
Shared Albums will become more flexible as well. iCloud Shared Albums will support full-resolution photo sharing, more file types, emoji reactions, improved activity feeds, temporary albums, and web contributions from people without Apple devices.
More Features May Still Be Coming
Apple may not have shown everything yet.
Mashable reported that iOS 27 may still receive three more unannounced features, suggesting that Apple could hold some updates for later hardware or software releases.
For now, iOS 27 looks less like a single dramatic redesign and more like a wide set of everyday upgrades. Siri AI may get the most attention, but the most useful changes may be the quieter ones: easier bill splitting, better location controls, smarter Maps discovery, improved media features, and more flexible photo sharing.
