Telegram users can expect a wave of AI-powered tools as part of a major new partnership with Elon Musk’s xAI.

Telegram has officially announced a one-year strategic partnership with Grok AI, the chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s xAI initiative. The collaboration will bring a suite of AI features directly into the messaging platform, while also providing Telegram with a significant financial boost.

According to Telegram founder Pavel Durov, the deal includes a $300 million investment in cash and equity, along with a revenue-sharing agreement under which Telegram will receive 50% of all xAI subscription revenue generated through the app.

New AI Features Coming to Telegram

The integration of Grok into Telegram will roll out in stages starting this summer. Key features include:

  • Grok AI pinned for all users, offering instant access to the chatbot
  • Direct search bar integration, allowing users to ask questions without opening a separate window
  • Topic-based subfolders within the Grok bot for better organization
  • AI-powered rewriting tools, including tone and clarity adjustments
  • Summarization of unread messages in a variety of styles (e.g. formal, casual, concise)
  • Summarization for PDFs and links
  • AI moderation tools for group chats
  • Automated reply generation for individual users
  • Fact-checking functionality for channel administrators
  • AI-generated stickers and avatars for more personalized visuals

Telegram representatives have emphasized that these tools are aimed at enhancing productivity, improving communication, and giving users greater creative flexibility without compromising privacy or user control.

Strategic and Financial Implications

Beyond feature enhancements, the Grok partnership marks a significant financial milestone for Telegram. The platform, which has historically avoided traditional advertising models, has been seeking sustainable monetization avenues. The deal with xAI represents a critical step toward long-term growth and financial independence.

While the initial agreement is limited to one year, sources familiar with the matter say both parties are open to extending the partnership depending on user engagement and revenue performance.

Telegram’s integration of Grok comes amid a broader industry trend of embedding AI into consumer platforms, signaling that conversational AI may soon become a core utility across messaging apps.
