X is launching a new History tab on iOS, making it easier for users to find posts, videos, and articles they have saved, liked, or opened before.
X is becoming more of a “save-it-for-later” app by bringing bookmarks, likes, videos, and articles together in one place. This feature helps users quickly go back to content they might not have finished reading or watching.
With this update, users will access their saved activity differently in the app. The Bookmarks button on the left menu is now called History. The new History page has four tabs: Bookmarks, Likes, Videos, and Articles.
What appears inside the new History tab
The new History section brings together content users have saved on purpose and content they have just interacted with.
TechCrunch explained that Bookmarks and Likes are still actions users choose, while Videos and Articles are added based on what users watch or read on X.
NDTV gave a similar explanation, saying bookmarks and likes are saved by users, but Videos and Articles fill up automatically based on what users open or watch.
This means History is more than just a renamed bookmarks folder. It acts like a memory layer, letting users return to content even if they didn’t save it on purpose. This makes X feel more like a web browser, since users can revisit things they viewed before. This is a tool that helps users discover content and keep track of what they engage with on a fast-moving platform.
Nikita Bier says the timeline moves fast
Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, introduced the feature to help users keep track of their favorite content. Bier called the new tab a better way for users to return to things they want to finish reading or watching. Bier said that the History tab on iOS will keep Bookmarks, Long Videos, Articles, and Likes together so users can come back and continue watching or reading.
The main idea is practical: X’s timeline moves quickly, especially during breaking news or trending topics. Bier focused on this issue, explaining that the company hopes History will help users keep track of their favorite content as the timeline moves fast.
A push toward long-form content
The History tab is part of X’s larger goal to be more than just a short-post social network. This update could lead to more use of X’s long-form article format, which lets businesses and creators publish content longer than the usual 280 characters. X has added long-form posts, article tools, and more video content as it competes with platforms like Meta and TikTok.
By putting articles and long videos in a dedicated history view, X makes it easier for users to use the platform for longer content, not just for reacting to posts as they happen.
Private by design
